This summer was first filled with travel to grandchildren, and then we all went out east to visit my favorite cousin, plus we went into Washington, D.C. Oldest grandchild, now almost four, and his papa are into airplanes and space, so the Air and Space Museum was where we spent the most time. Next I had a total knee replacement in July which filled my life with rest and rehab. Now I am back to "Nana Care" with our local grandson who is 16 months old and walking all over the place,
Bear Creek in Evergreen, CO. The creek had been running fast and furious but not flooded until that night. The Search and Rescue man told us to leave as soon as we could, so within 10 minutes we had grabbed our stuff (except for our food) and were driving out of the canyon, up the road through Evergreen, by the over-flowing Evergreen Lake and on toward Denver. As we drove we phoned hotels along the route to see if we could get a room. After three "no vacancies" we finally got a room at the Denver Sheraton West. Out of our price range but by then it was 1:30 a.m. and we just wanted to get settled and back to sleep. We learned that Friday we would not have been able to get out of the area due to flooding and road closures, so we were grateful to get out when we did. Our dear friends in Denver put us up on Friday night, and we headed home on schedule on Saturday. What an experience! I am still watching with sadness the tragic aftermath of the terrible floods. Praying for the affected constantly. Last we checked our cabin had water almost to the porch but had not been flooded inside. We pray that remains the case.
